dream job

Day 4: My Dream Job

I promised myself that I was going to keep this challenge lighthearted and fun, but I guess I’m just an emotional girl. And so this most can go either way: I apologise in advance.

I just discovered that I have a constant need to be validated. Although I know where those needs come from, they make it hard to find a job and stick to it. This is because I always feel pressured to excel in everything I do, and when I don’t I feel like a complete failure. So in most instances I bail before I fail.

The notion of doing what makes you happy is complex to me because I love and am passionate about many things. I’ll give you a list of things and maybe we can come up with a few job possibilities:

  • Writing;
  • Mental health and mental health awareness;
  • African feminism;
  • Yoga;
  • Poetry;
  • Programming (I seriously love it, even though I suck at it); and
  • Food: the eating thereof

So in my mind the dream job would see me being a regular contributor on Huffington Post, while owning a yoga studio that provides counselling and promotes healthy eating options. On the side I will run my own website, build an app and be a ghost writer for Everyday Feminism. A girl can dream right?

What I do know for sure is that whatever I spend the rest of my life doing should bring me happiness. I want to wake up every morning and look forward to doing whatever it is everyday. I do not have to be rich, but I have to be loved. I wish to feel complete even when society deems my ‘dream job’ unimportant.

Oh and I should be able to work from home because my sleep pattern is ridiculous.

So I guess ” do what makes you happy” does apply to me; because any job, frustrating or not, that brings happiness is worth it.
