Dear Cis Man

I’m going to try and be as kind as possible so listen
And listen well
See the mere fact that you were born with a penis makes you luckier than me
The world sees you as a hero
Even though I’m yet to see the lives you have saved
Or better yet the lives you have birthed

Your sexual preference means that you will never be a victim
No one will question your level of humanity based on whether you are
Or bottom
Or something in between
Your masculinity always in tact
Your choice or attire will always be deemed “rugged” and “attractive”

And I ask this with all sincerity
Me walking into your peripheral vision does not give you the right to touch me
Nor does it mean I wish for you to look at me
My existence is not merely to please you
Have you ever stopped to think: I breath fine without you?

Do you notice how I cross the street when I see you
Scared of your actions
But even more terrified by your thoughts
Afraid of when I’ll fall prey to your desires
While society continues to blame my short dress

Dear cis man
Please check your privilege at the door
Or better yet take it with you as you vacate my space
You fail to see the struggle I endure simply to be free
